Our deburring and finishing tools are powerful and impressive, and we’ve developed quite a lineup for efficiently deburring holes. For instance, we’re proud of what our Wheel Type Brush and Crosshole Brush can accomplish.

Now we’ve added another tool to our arsenal to help customers that need to deburr round parts, channeled diameters and deeper bores. Our customers told us they needed more tool options that can work some of the most challenging holes and slots and that can be applied radially as well.

So, we’re introducing: the Xebec Stone Flexible Shaft Disc Type.

This tool can deburr and polish inner diameters that our other tools are not capable of – and, of course, it outshines any traditional alternatives due to the sophisticated design and the original continuous ceramic fiber. The self-sharpening cutting edges are exposed over the entire surface of the disc which means consistent performance and longer tool life.

The Xebec Stone Flexible Shaft Disc Type has numerous advantages for deburring high-precision parts, including:

Reach New Dimensions

The 14 mm disc is larger than the Cylinder Type Stones, but the narrower depth (2 mm) allows use in channels and edges inside the diameter. The longer shaft (78 mm) lets you reach deeper into the main bore of a part to deburr and finish, or apply the tool in larger cross holes.  The flexible shaft is 2.3 mm but it can be used in the Xebec Mobile Micro Motor if you use the optional 2.3 mm collet which is now available separately.

Stretch Time

The ceramic fiber Stone is more durable than alternatives, such as abrasive grains or rubber or vitrified grindstone. That translates to a longer tool life – three to five times longer than alternatives with equivalent grinding power – and less frequent tool replacement.

Achieve Steady Contact

The spring steel shaft of the tool is flexible, which means contact with the part will be soft. Subtle vibrations will be suppressed and the Stone won’t bounce against the surface. This reduces the risks of surface damage and inconsistency.

Trust the Stone

The Stone is able to cut on all sides and be used for deburring and finishing. The ceramic fiber is unlikely to crack in the way that traditional grindstones do, and it achieves better, more reliable quality. It also wears evenly. This translates to greater consistency and gets the task completed, rather than half-finished or damaged.

Automate and Accelerate

In an automated application, this tool can reduce overall production time, improve quality and consistency, offer longer-lasting performance, work more parts than alternatives – and more.

Make Manual Incredible

In manual applications, this tool is more consistent and reliable than the alternatives. You can rely on the ceramic fiber Stone to be durable, and you can apply all of its edges as they are all abrasive. The soft touch and control of the flexible shaft make it unrivaled in performance.

Use Case: Deburr Splined Edges and Internal Grooves

As an example, the Flexible Shaft Disc Type can be used on aircraft components made of iron, brass or aluminum alloy to deburr splined edges and internal grooves. Currently, you may use a Disc type resinoid grindstone and find that it grinds too much and is liable to crack.

With our new tool, the Disc will reach deep into the workpiece without cracking or over-grinding. You can expect it to work continuously without issue.

Use Case: Deburr Holes on Recessed Surfaces

This tool can also be used to deburr holes on recessed surfaces. For example, say you’re working an electrical component made of Kovar. You might use a Disc type rubber grindstone, which might chip during the process because of the hardness of the Kovar burrs. This tool might last for five parts before it needs to be replaced.

With the Xebec Flexible Shaft Disc Type, cracking is rare. You can apply this tool for a long time and deburr 10 or more components with consistency and quality. It will also reach spots that would be impossible to reach with alternatives.

The Disc Type Joins a Robust Lineup

What other options are available from Xebec for deburring and finishing holes and grooves?

  • Back Burr Cutter & Path
  • Wheel Brush Type
  • Crosshole Brush
  • Other Flexible Shaft Types

The new Flexible Shaft Disc Type can be used along with these and other Xebec tools to accomplish the desired specifications. It has clear use cases across industries, including but not limited to:

  • Aerospace
  • Energy
  • Firearms
  • Medical
  • Powertrain

Eager to integrate this innovation into your own processes? Get in touch to discuss your application and how our tools can accomplish the work faster, more efficiently and with greater consistency – ultimately saving you money and improving production.

Cutting fiber brushes and stones are cutting tools and are often rotated at high speeds with a power tool or in a machine tool. They should never be operated at higher than the maximum speeds listed. When using these tools, safety glasses and gloves should be worn. Breathing the dust created by using these products for prolonged periods of time should be avoided.
